    Wind South Job Seekers Workshops

Meetings are held at the First Baptist Church, Foxboro, MA, on Mechanic Street, 1.4 miles off exit 8 on Route 95.

QUOTE: "We just keep battling' until we win." a Red Sox Player overheard in the clubhouse

    WIND NEWS BRIEFS:
Many of you know that I have met with WIND members for the last two Thursdays in small focus groups. I have had a wonderful time doing this, enjoying both fellowship with the members and learning much in the process. I received several superb suggestions about ways to improve WIND South one of which I discuss below.

One major issue that resonated with many in the focus groups was that networking process at the tables needs improvement. Oftentimes tables are slow to start, they become overcrowded and frequently they are poorly run. At some tables people digress and go on too long while other networkers get little time at all.

Here are the suggestions: to improve the networking process

    • Have a period of informal networking in the Lounge area until
there are enough people to start a table, as opposed to starting a
table with three or four people which then gradually fills up. The
people who initially start the table may only speak to two or
three others whereas the people who join the table 15 minutes
later get a much larger group to hear them out.
    • The informal networking could have some structure, e.g., with some
suggested topics of general discussion to help break the ice, or
simple be free form socializing over coffee to help us relax and
meet old and new WIND members.
    • Begin the tables around 8:45 or 8:50am and have a trained
facilitator at each table to ensure that the process moves along
and everyone gets about the same amount of time. The facilitators
can keep track with a timer set for an allotted time. When the
timer goes off , one speaker ends and another would begin. Using a
timer takes some of the pressure off the facilitator from having
to be a strict limit setter. The timer does it for him or her. It
was also suggested that I ask WIND members for volunteers to
facilitate at the tables and that I provide some training to those
who lead the tables. The goal would be to provide a higher quality
      of networking around the tables.
    • To raise the quality further each table would have a copy of WIND
South company contacts available to help the process along.

There were other suggestions which I won't elaborate on here but discuss
at some future time. I will begin to implement these suggestions over
the next two weeks. Let me know how you like them.
